Job Description

About Bright Uro

Bright Uro is a fast-growing medical device startup headquartered in Irvine, CA. Our mission is to improve the lives of millions affected by lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) by developing cutting-edge diagnostic technology that combines advanced hardware, intuitive software, and powerful data analytics – making it easier for clinicians to gain actionable insights while delivering a better patient experience. Our passion lies in advancing urologic care through innovation and building a collaborative, dynamic team to bring transformative solutions to life.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, this role will provide the technical expertise necessary to achieve fully functional and de-risked feasibility prototypes ready for the development of advanced wireless sensing systems for Urology. You will independently execute assigned Research activities, including concept innovation, algorithm development, feasibility prototyping, and Clinical Data Analysis, while mentoring junior members of the team.

Bright Uro is a dynamic startup with a game-changing urology device that already has interest from medical providers – it's an exciting time! Our team is small but growing; we are hiring people who want to help build this company with us, with a focus on excellent work and culture.

This is a local role, working 5 days per week in-person at our Irvine, CA office .

  • ML algorithm development including signal processing, feature engineering, and model development
  • Contribute to proof of concept and feasibility prototype testing
  • Build and test hardware prototypes and experimental test fixtures mechanically and electrically, including soldering
  • Maintain and develop internal Python code base using Git version control
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers on the R&D team

  • 3-5 years of  medical device industry work experience in medical device feasibility prototyping and development; this may  not be substituted for time in education/intern/postdoc environments
  • Knowledge of rigorous experimental design
  • Expert-level programming skills in Python – this is non-negotiable
  • Strong background in biomedical sensor technologies and ability to analyze physiological data streams using Python
  • Coding experience that isn't based on AI prompts. AI may be used, but the role requires the ability to hand-code and use AI effectively as support rather than generation
  • Experience with electronic test tools (e.g. DMMs, Oscilloscopes)

  • Familiarity with the medical device design process, including FDA phases and documentation processes, user needs documentation, etc. You don't need to be an expert, but exposure to this process is extremely helpful
  • White paper, journal publication, and grant writing experience
  • Prior startup or early-stage company experience

Physical Requirements
